A typical night

The heated sense of distance, consuming my every thought
collectively eating away my attention
these sleepless nights spar with a love-struck coma
the arcs and bends of my body are unnecessary, yet routine

The empty space beside me yearns for your heat
leaving me cold and vulnerable
I’ll feign sleep
And during the internal tussle I’ll remember the cause

I acquiesce to sleeps request
But then, your words illuminate my room
sleep holds no authority when your present
I bask for a moment before replying

You respond with "goodnight", my reply mirroring yours
My body is at ease, my pounding heart silences
The empty space isn’t as abrasive
I unwrap reality, and fall towards slumber

Just before reaching my destination my eyes are beckoned open
Dawn slowly spills across my walls
And the numbers across the room signal that its time to leave
…just another night
